Delta Works

Engineering

The Dutch Delta Works is a remarkable system of dams, sluices, dikes, and storm surge barriers built to protect the Netherlands from flooding, especially after the 1953 North Sea flood. Iconic structures like the Oosterscheldekering use movable gates to manage water while preserving the environment. For engineers, it is a must-visit site to study large-scale hydraulic engineering, flood management, and innovative infrastructure design.
